about

Dingxi is a prefecture-level city located in the eastern part of Gansu province, China. The city is situated in a mountainous region, on the edge of the Loess Plateau, and is known for its dramatic terrain characterized by steep gullies and rolling hills. Geographically, Dingxi serves as a transitional zone between the arid regions of the northwest and the fertile plains of central China. The area has a semi-arid climate with distinct seasons, including cold, dry winters and warm, wet summers, which are conducive to agriculture, particularly rain-fed farming. With the Tao River flowing through, Dingxi supports a variety of crops, most notably potatoes and other grains. The city is hailed as the 'Potato Capital of China', with the staple being an essential part of the local economy. Indigenous medicinal plants also thrive here, contributing to traditional Chinese medicine practices.
