Dingxi is a prefecture-level city located in the eastern part of Gansu province, China. The city is situated in a mountainous region, on the edge of the Loess Plateau, and is known for its dramatic terrain characterized by steep gullies and rolling hills. Geographically, Dingxi serves as a transitional zone between the arid regions of the northwest and the fertile plains of central China. The area has a semi-arid climate with distinct seasons, including cold, dry winters and warm, wet summers, which are conducive to agriculture, particularly rain-fed farming. With the Tao River flowing through, Dingxi supports a variety of crops, most notably potatoes and other grains.
