Gaozhou is a county-level city located in the western part of Guangdong Province in southern China. It is under the administration of Maoming City and lies approximately 400 kilometers to the southwest of Guangzhou, the provincial capital. The city has a rich history, diverse culture, varied demographics, and unique geography that make it a remarkable place within the region. Culturally, Gaozhou is a melting pot of traditions and customs. It has retained a strong local culture, which includes the Gaozhou dialect, a variety of Cantonese. Its cultural heritage includes traditional operas, folk songs, and various festivals that celebrate the lunar calendar, local deities, and historical events. The region is famous for its Dragon Boat Festival, Lantern Festival, and the Gaozhou Peach Flower Festival. Traditional crafts and local cuisines further contribute to its rich cultural tapestry. Demographically, Gaozhou's population predominantly consists of the Han Chinese majority, with a significant portion speaking the local Gaozhou dialect of Cantonese, as well as Mandarin Chinese, which is the official language and lingua franca across China.
